Call to protect natural resources

AWARENESS CAMPAIGN: School students taking part in a rally organised by the district unit of the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, in Vellore on Monday.

VELLORE: About 400 school students participated in a rally organised by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu to create awareness of the need to protect natural resources.

G. Moorthy, Chief Educational Officer, Vellore, flagged off the rally. P. Saravanan, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Vellore, lit the torch which was carried by Arjuna awardee and Olympian Muthu and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Anbu Kadhiravan. H. Peter Chandran Rajapandian, District Sports Officer, presided.

The rally, which started from the Town Bus Stand, passed through Long Bazaar, Commissary Bazaar, Filter Bed Road, Officers’ Line and Infantry Road and ended at the Government Nethaji Stadium.

The students carried placards containing slogans such as ‘Let us protect the natural wealth,’ ‘Let us grow more trees’ and ‘Let us harvest rainwater.’
