VIT inks pact with U.S. institution

Special Correspondent

To conduct certified software development associates programmes

Programme designed by over 1,900 software managers across the globe

It was introduced in the U.S. in May 2008, all over the world in September

VELLORE: VIT University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Computer Society, U.S., to conduct Certified Software Development Associates (CSDA) programme for students of computing disciplines such as Software Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering and Information Technology.

Sorel Reisman, vice-president, IEEE Computer Society, and G. Viswanathan, Chancellor of VIT University, signed the pact on behalf of the respective institutions in the presence of Pro-Chancellors Sekar Viswanathan and G.V. Selvam on the VIT campus here on Monday.

According to a release, the VIT University and the IEEE Computer Society would offer the CSDA programme, which had been designed by over 1,900 software managers across the globe. Dr. Reisman said that the CSDA programme was a new programme introduced in May 2008 in the U.S. and in September 2008 worldwide, for the entry-level software engineers (with less than five years experience) and final year students of computing disciplines, particularly software engineering. The CSDA and the Certified Software Development Professional (CSDP) programme offered by the IEEE Computer Society for mid-level software professionals had got wide acceptability among the Indian IT industry as observed during the last three to four visits of Rangachar Kasturi, president of the IEEE Computer Society to India since May.

The IEEE, a U.S.-based professional society, specialises in all accreditation processes. The IEEE Computer Society, established in 1946, specially deals with software professional certifications. Both the CSDP and the CSDA were the first two certifications that conform to the newly-released ISO/IEC 24773 standards, which enable methods of certifying software engineering professionals. The IEEE Computer Society had a global membership of 85,000 computing professionals.

It was now extending its benefits to Indian technical institutions, especially the faculty and students of computer science, software engineering, IT and software applications.
