Coimbatore: Three youths from Kozhikode were arrested on Monday night on charges of carrying out illegal telephone conferencing and racketing, a top police official said. A map of the city and two cell phones were seized from the youths, aged between 19 and 21, staying in a lodge for the last three weeks, City Police Commissioner K.C. Mahali told mediapersons here on Tuesday. Preliminary interrogation revealed that the youths were engaged in telephone conferencing and were constantly making calls to Gulf countries, using BSNL and Reliance network, Mr.Mahali said. Ruling out that the trio were engaged in any terrorist activities, Mr. Mahali said that requests had been sent to BSNL and Reliance officials to provide details of their calls to the Gulf. The arrested, identified as Abdul Aamin, Irfan (Iqbal) Ahmed and Jamsiul, were produced before the judicial magistrate court and lodged in Pollachi sub-jail. Cases under various sections, including cheating, have been registered against them, Mr. Mahali said. — PTI
