Two youths electrocuted

TAMBARAM: Two college students were electrocuted in two incidents in the southern suburbs on Monday.

Police said that Prasanth (18) of of Krishnagiri district, a first-year student of Sathyabhama University, was electrocuted on Monday, when he stepped on a live wire as he was walking towards the hostel from the playground, tepped on a live wire. He was rushed to a private hospital in Perungudi, where he was pronounced dead. The body was taken to Government Royapettah Hospital and handed over to his relatives after post-mortem.

In another incident, a youth died of electric shock while he was operating a motor pump at his house in Tirumalai Nagar .

Police said that R. Manivannan (20), a second year B.Com student at Pachaiyappa’s College, was helping his relatives pump out water from their house on Monday. The motor stopped. When Manivannan tried to repair it, he was struck by electricity. He was rushed to a hospital in Chromepet, where he was declared dead on arrival.
