Voters’ day: Voters queue up to cast their ballots during re-polling for the Delhi Assembly at Mukandpur on Tuesday.

NEW DELHI: Fresh polling was held at nine polling stations in three constituencies of the 70-member Delhi Assembly on Tuesday.

Re-polling was held at six polling stations in the Malviya Nagar Assembly segment, two in Burari and one in Matiala from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“The voter turnout during re-polling at these polling stations increased marginally to 57.25 per cent from 56.3 per cent on November 29. Micro observers, videographers and an adequate number of police personnel were deployed at the stations to ensure free and fair elections. Counting of votes of these nine polling stations will be taken up on December 8 with the rest of the Delhi Assembly segments,” said Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer Satbir Silas Bedi. Polling at these nine stations had been declared void by the Election Commission on Saturday following complaints of bogus voting, failure of electronic voting machines and wrong notification of polling booths.

While Delhi has already voted for electing its representatives for 69 of the 70 Assembly seats, the fight for the Rajendra Nagar constituency is still on. Voting here has been rescheduled for December 13 following the death of BJP candidate Puran Chand Yogi, and now his widow Asha is fighting on the party ticket against the Congress chief whip Ramakant Gowsami.

The result will be announced on December 15.
