ONGOLE: Indira Kranthi Padham (IKP) employees here on Wednesday called off their week-long stir following an assurance from Minister for Rural Development Chinna Reddy that the government would issue an order in 15 days resolving all their issues. The employees were demanding that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy keep his promise on extending them facilities on par with government employees. President of Prakasam IKP Employees’ Union K. Kalyan said that they had agitated for security of service in July when the Chief Minister assured them that they would be continued in service till the age of superannuation and the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) would be given the status of a corporation. He agreed to provide all facilities to SERP employees on par with government employees. But the government did not issue any order to fulfil any of these promises till now, he alleged. Mr. Kalyan said that they observed relay fasts, held dharnas, donated blood, begged alms as part of their State-wide agitation.
