Police now have more to do: PM

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: Security in the information technology city of Bangalore appears to be high on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s list of priorities.

Soon after his arrival here on a daylong visit on Wednesday, Dr. Singh sought out City Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari from among the battery of senior officials lined up to receive him at the Air Force base at Yelahanka near here. Dr. Singh told Mr. Bidari that his responsibilities had increased in the wake of the recent terror strike in Mumbai.

Mr. Bidari told journalists that during the brief exchange the Prime Minister reminded him about the responsibilities of the police in ensuring security in Bangalore.

“Your responsibilities have now increased. I am confident that you will discharge them efficiently,” Mr. Bidari quoted Dr. Singh as saying.
