It’s a day out to cherish

GUNTUR: It was a festive atmosphere at the Police Parade Grounds here on Wednesday where one witnessed people in best of their clothes, balloons and pigeons besides, a large number of physically challenged persons to commemorate the World Disabled Day.

The celebrations began with march past in the presence of Zilla Parishad Chairperson Kuchipudi Vijaya and Collector B. Venkatesham. Children of all age groups from various schools and colleges and special institutions participated with enthusiasm.

Disability is for the physical body, but not mind, so every person must try to overcome the difficulty and excel in some other aspect, said the ZP Chairperson.

Collector B. Venkatesham wanted people not to show sympathy for the disabled for provide them with opportunities so that they could mingle in the mainstream.

Every citizen had something to learn from the disabled, who also have strengths in them, said the Collector and wanted this zeal among them to be imbibed by the normal people .

“People who are otherwise normal, have some grief or other of not being able to achieve in life and such people should take a lesson out of the lives of the disabled,” Mr. Venkatesham opined.

He flagged off tri-cycle competitions for the disabled boys and girls of all age groups and other sporting events were also organised by the Department of Disabled Welfare. Prizes were given away to the winners. Department Assistant Director Suryanarayana was also present on the occasion.
