Trains were diverted, cancelled, rescheduled or terminated half way Luckily number of injured persons was less and no casualty was reported BERHAMPUR: Around 15 persons were injured when when 14 compartments of train number 0639 Ernakulum-Patna Express derailed near Baruva in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh, about 30 kilometres from Berhampur at 12.05 am on Thursday. According to the railway officials the accident occurred between Sompeta and Baruva stations under the Khurda road division of the east Coast Railway. The train had 22 coaches. Eight coaches survived derailment. Luckily number of injured persons was less and no casualty was reported. According to railway officials emergency relief and medical train was rushed to the spot for the rescue operation. Relief trains reached the spot from Palasa, Khurda Road and Visakhapatnam. The long distance passengers in the ill-fated train who were on their way to Bihar were transported to Berhampur by a special train. Under the supervision of the Berhampur station superintendent, Durga Prasad Brahma, these passengers were provided refreshment and other help at the station. Then these passengers were boarded to another special train on its way to Patna. But this accident affected the railway traffic drastically on the route. Trains were diverted, cancelled, rescheduled or terminated half way. According to a press release of the railways the 8463 Bhubaneswar-Bangalore Prashanti Express scheduled to leave Bhubaneswar at 05.45 am was rescheduled to leave Bhubaneswar at 03.00 pm. Similarly, starting time of 1020 Bhubaneswar-Mumbai Konark Express and 8447 Bhubaneswar-Koraput Hirakhand Express were rescheduled. The 8646 Hyderabad-Howrah East Coast Express, 2842 Chennai-Howrah Coromandal Express, 2507 Ernakulam-Patna Express and 2704 Secunderabad-Howrah Falaknuma Express have been decided to be diverted via Vizianagaram-Rayagada-Sambalpur and Jharsuguda to their destinations. Similarly, 8448 Koraput-Bhubaneswar Hirakhand Express would be diverted via Vizianagaram-Rayagada-Sambalpur and Angul to Bhubaneswar. The 8411/8412 Bhubaneswar-Visakhapatnam-Bhubaneswar Inter City Express, 217 Puri-Palasa passenger, DMU-II Palasa-Cuttack and 218 Palasa-Puri and 1KP Khurda-Puri passenger trains were cancelled on Thursday. Added to it 7015 Bhubaneswar-Secunderabad Visakha Express and 7479 Puri-Tirupati Express were decided to be cancelled between Bhubaneswar-Visakhapatnam and Puri-Visakhapatnam respectively. The 7480 Tirupati-Puri Express and the 7016 Secunderabad-Bhubaneswar Visakha Express would be terminated at Visakhapatnam and would run as 7479 Puri-Tirupati Express and 7015 Bhubaneswar-Secunderabad Visakha Express from Visakhapatnam to Tirupati and Secunderabad respectively.
