State employees seek better deal

Staff Reporter

BHUBANESWAR: Hundreds of teachers and government employees would meet here on Friday to chalk out their strategy for a sustained agitation as State government did not take them into confidence while finalising recommendations of fitment committee.

The fitment committee was constituted to look into issues of salary hike for State government employees soon after Union Cabinet approved recommendations of Sixth Pay Commission for Central government employees.

Orissa Karmachari Sangram Samiti (OKSS), an association of State government employees, said the State government had earmarked a budgetary allocation in Supplementary Budget calculating only 20 per cent hike in salaries.

“There were, however, scopes for an increase of 40 per cent in salaries.

The State government did not consult with government employees and half-heartedly worked out scales of pay,” OKSS General Secretary Sarat Malla said here.
