Bandh in Bellary peaceful

Bellary: Barring stray incidents of stone pelting in a couple of places, the Bellary bandh, observed here on Thursday, in response to a call given by the Hindu Jagaran Vedike to protest against the recent terror attack in Mumbai, passed off peacefully.

Shops, business establishments, hotels, restaurants, cinema houses, banks, and other offices remained closed throughout the day. The North Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NEKRTC) buses did not ply.

Activists of Hindutva organisations went around the city on their two-wheelers sporting a saffron flag and forced some of the shops and educational institutions to close. However, they spared institutions in which examinations were in progress.

Activists reportedly damaged the furniture and broke glass panes of a couple of shops near Cowl Bazaar and at APMC. They also reportedly pelted stones. Earlier, hundreds of pro-Hindu activists assembled at the busy Gadagi Chennappa Circle and held a meeting to condole the killing of innocent people by terrorists in Mumbai;
