‘Take all-party team to Delhi on Article 371’

Staff Correspondent

Raichur: The former Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh has urged Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa to take an all-party delegation to the Union Government to put pressure on it to concede the longstanding demand of the people of the Hyderabad Karnataka region to amend Article 371 of the Constitution.

Speaking to presspersons here on Thursday, Mr. Singh said that the Congress leaders led by the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president R.V. Deshpande presented a memorandum to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Bangalore on Wednesday urging him to consider the demand favourably. Mr. Singh said that the Chief Minister should take up the issue with Leader of the Opposition L.K. Advani so that the latter could table the matter in Parliament for discussion. Congress leaders from the State should also speak to the party’s MPs appealing to them to extend support, he said.

Supporting the demand of the State to set up a unit of the National Security Guard in Bangalore, Mr. Singh said that Congress leaders had presented a memorandum to the Prime Minister urging him to consider the demand.
