NEW DELHI: Former Delhi Chief Minister Madan Lal Khurana has been entrusted the responsibility of organising all the election work in the Rajendra Nagar constituency of the Delhi Assembly by the Bharatiya Janata Party. Following the death of the three-time party MLA from the constituency Puran Chand Yogi recently, his widow Asha is now contesting the election on BJP ticket. Taking over the responsibility of the election work, Mr. Khurana organised a meeting of workers of all four mandals or blocks under Rajendra Nagar on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by all four councillors, Suraj Kumar, Malti Devi, Mool Chand Chawla and Vidya Devi. Thereafter Mr. Khurana discussed the election strategy with several party legislators. Among the MLAs he would be consulting on the preparations are Surender Pal Ratawal, Karan Singh Tanwar, Moti Lal Sodhi, Subhash Sachdeva and Harsharan Singh Balli. Confident that the BJP will win this seat for the fourth time on the basis of the development works undertaken by Puran Chand Yogi, who had won the seat three times in a row, Mr. Khurana said people in Delhi were also disappointed with the ten years of Congress rule. ‘Many failures’“Congress leaders are busy amassing wealth while people are craving for basic amenities,” he said, adding that the Government had failed completely on the issues of power, water, public transport, education, health, environment, and law and order. Due to sealing and demolitions, he said, lakhs of people had been displaced and about one lakh rendered homeless. Holding the view that there was great acrimony among the people of Delhi over the recent incidents of terror, he said while the sense of insecurity had deepened, the population had also been hit hard by the back-breaking rise in prices of almost all commodities. The ten years of Congress rule had proved “very costly” to the people of Delhi as the charges for drinking water, electricity and sewerage had shot up by 300 per cent, he charged.
