Rs. 16.23 crore for construction of 16 bridges
Staff Reporter
PERAMBALUR: As part of its programme for developing rural infrastructure, the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has sanctioned Rs. 16.23 crore for constructing 16 bridges at various places in the district.
Many of these bridges have been the felt-need of the villagers for several years. Some of these bridges will facilitate a short-route connectivity to distant villages.
A maximum of Rs. 3.76 crore had been sanctioned for the bridge across the Kallar river at V. Kalathur village.
The causeway across the river, which developed breaches during monsoon, will be replaced by a new road over-bridge.
The Perambalur – Athur segment via Veppanthattai will get a facelift, as five causeways here will be upgraded into bridges at a total estimate of Rs. 3.54 crore.
Explaining the advantages of this new infrastructure in terms of expeditious movement of agricultural produce and transport facilities, the District Collector, Anil Meshram, said here on Thursday that the NABARD has also approved construction of one bridge on the Arumbavur-A. Mettur – Malayalapatti road at an estimate of Rs.1.56 crore and two bridges on the Alathur – Karai – Kolakkanatham sector at a total outlay of Rs. 1.95 crore.
The construction of these bridges would link interior villages. Tenders would be called for shortly and work would be taken up in due course of time, he added.
