Lok Nayak award for Ravuri Bharadwaja

VISAKHAPATNAM: Noted short story writer, novelist, poet and critic Ravuri Bharadwaja was chosen for this year’s (2009) Lok Nayak Foundation’s Literary Award, the president of the Foundation and former Rajya Sabha member Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad announced here on Thursday.
Gnana Peeth Awardee C. Narayana Reddy, former Governor V.S. Rama Devi and Chief Justice of Assam High Court Justice Chalameswar comprised the selection committee. The award amount has been increased from Rs.1 lakh to Rs.1.25 lakh and it would be presented at a function in Visakhapatnam on January 18, the death anniversary day of N.T. Rama Rao and noted Hindi poet Harivanshrai Bachchan, he said. Ravuri Bharadwaja has 24 volumes of short stories, nine novels, four play-lets, and five radio plays. He has also contributed profusely to children’s literature. ‘Paakudu Raallu’, a graphic account of life behind the screen in film industry, is considered his magnum opus. ‘Jeevana Samaram’ is another of his popular works.
