HASSAN: Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) president H.D. Revanna, while addressing presspersons at the cattle feed unit in Chennapatna here on Friday, said KMF had decided to purchase maize directly from farmers at Rs. 840 a quintal. Maize is a major ingredient in the manufacture of cattle feed. Mr. Revanna said the capacity of the Hassan cattle feed plant was 200 tonnes a day, and by producing 240 quintals a day, the Hassan unit had created record of sorts in State among KMF units. There were four cattle feed manufacturing units in the State that were being operated by KMF. They were at Hassan (200 tonnes), Rajanukunte near Bangalore (150 tonnes), Gubbi (200 tonnes) and Dharwad with a 300-tonne capacity. These units produced 25,000 tonnes of cattle feed every month, while the requirement was 45,000 tonnes. He said that for the second cattle feed unit in Hassan, KMF had purchased 6.32 acres of land at a cost of Rs. 65 lakh. Here, 300 tonnes of cattle feed would be manufactured. New cattle feed units would also come up at Bidadi (500-tonne capacity), Dharwad (200 tonnes) and Davangere (200 tonnes). Mr. Revanna said construction work on the milk powder unit at Chennarayapatna was nearing completion. CaseHe justified inclusion of the Chief Minister in the party against which a case may be filed by the KMF in the High Court, alleging harassment. Mr. Revanna said there was no foul play in recruitments to the body and that five posts reserved for Scheduled Castes could not be filled up as there were no suitable candidates. Mr. Revanna said KMF had a working capital of Rs. 8.5 crore which would be kept as a reserve fund. “If we keep this amount in the bank, it will fetch us an interest rate of 4 per cent. If it is used as working capital, it is better as we do not have to take loans from banks. Hence we are using this as a reserve fund with the permission of the Cooperative Department. Mr. Revanna described Home Minister V.S. Acharya as “helpless” as even constables’ transfers were being done at the Chief Minister’s level. He said the people were not secure under the current leadership. He also expressed regret that his brother H.D. Kumaraswamy had joined hands with the BJP to form the Government in 2006.
