TIRUPATI: Rashtriya Seva Samithi (RASS), a Tirupati-based NGO working for the welfare of physically and mentally-challenged persons, has appealed to the State government to sanction land to voluntary organisations for construction of buildings to house the physically-challenged and destitute persons. While thanking the State for announcing monthly pensions and scholarships for the physically-challenged, RASS general secretary G. Muniratnam has urged the government to take a cue from the neighbouring Tamil Nadu and allot land free of cost to NGOs for construction of homes for the physically-challenged. He pointed out in this connection that over 600 recognised NGOs are extending education and rehabilitation to the differentl-abled in the State, most of which are running classrooms and homes in rented buildings.
