EG tops in Arogyasri, says Collector

Staff Reporter

Scheme launched in second phase exactly a year ago

Discrimination against BPL families to be looked into

Kakinada: East Godavari district has stood first in the State in implementing the Arogyasri scheme, with 11,776 surgeries performed at a cost of nearly Rs. 41 crores.

The number of cases authorised for treatment under the scheme was 12,525. The scheme was launched in the district in the second phase on December 5 last year by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. West Godavari and Srikakulam districts occupy second and third positions in that order, Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi told media persons here on Friday.

Medical camps

Till now, 405 medical camps were held and 74,711 persons screened. Those in need of further treatment were referred to Arogyasri network hospitals.

Responding to questions, the Collector admitted that there were several complaints of discrimination against the beneficiaries who hailed from below poverty line (BPL) families. District Medical and Health Officer D. Vijay Kumar and Arogyasri district coordinator S. Krishna Kumar were instructed to talk to the hospital managements to ensure full services in the prescribed manner.

Hospitals warned

Hospitals that deviated from the guidelines were being black-listed. Some hospitals were refusing to treat Arogyasri beneficiaries on financial grounds (non-receipt of treatment / operations costs from the insurance company).

Arogyasri officials were asked to sort out the matter, as it cannot be an excuse for denying treatment.

All such issues would be dealt with in an appropriate way and necessary action initiated against the hospitals that fail to fulfil their commitments.

District Public Relations Officer V. Ramanjaneyulu and Star Health and Allied Insurance Company coordinator Naveen were present.
