To help is their motto

Staff Reporter

SANAGAREDDY: Shanta Bai is in her late 40s and uneducated. But neither her illiteracy nor her age has been a hurdle for her in assisting people to get the services of 108.

From Narayanakhed, Shanta Bai was able to assist 45 persons when they were facing critical health problems.

Many of the patients referred to the 108 are pregnant and having labour pains. “Just to help the needy in time is the motto and nothing else,” says Shanta Bai.

“I, along with a team of professionals, went all the way for 120 km to conduct a delivery near Warangal district borders. The assistance was given and the delivery took place on the road, literally,” said Srinivas, a reporter for electronic media from Kondapaka.

These two were some of the volunteers who shared their experiences at the ‘International Volunteers Day’ held at the government hospital here on Friday.

Complimenting the volunteers for the service they were rendering to society, Mohd Iqbal, Superintendent of Police, said that they should to acquire qualities like patience, working in adverse situations, sharing love and affection, etc.

Later, he presented awards to some volunteers for their exemplary performance. The programme was presided over by district medical and health officer Dr. Govardhan Reddy.
