IMA wants stern action
Staff Reporter
Tirupur: The Indian Medical Association, Tirupur branch, has requested the police to lodge cases promptly against anti-social elements who manhandle doctors, under the newly formulated acts and ordinances passed in the State Assembly prohibiting violence against medical personnel.
This appeal was made by the IMA in a meeting here following an attack on a woman doctor at Anuparpalayam, near here, by an unruly mob. Two persons had been arrested. S. Sakthivelavan, president, IMA, Tirupur branch, told reporters that similarly, the police should help the medical institutions to obtain the compensation for the damages caused to the properties from the accused itself as stipulated by the same law that came into effect in November.
A. Murughanaathan, former state president of the association, said that the association had extended the gratitude to State Government for bringing out a legislation aimed at helping the medical practitioners including nurses, medical and nursing students, and paramedical workers to perform their ‘noble duties’ without any fear.
The meeting condoled the deaths of innocent civilians and police officers in the terror attack that shook Mumbai last week.
