Take that!: Jason Statham in The Transporter 3 Film: The Transporter 3 (English) Cast: Jason Statham, Natalya Rudakova Director: Olivier Megaton The first Transporter film in 2002 about ex-special forces agent, Frank Martin, a mercenary transporter of all manner of goods, was the greatest fun and, with Ronin, created a whole new grammar of car chases. As cars zoomed down narrow, winding, cobbled European streets, and Statham as Martin barked out rules and beat up the baddies, we toasted the birth of a new action hero. Then there was more of the same in Transporter 2 (2005) where the action moves to Miami. Now we have the third instalment and the franchise is looking a little worn around the edges. Sure there is frenetic action aided by chaotic cuts and dizzying slow motion and missed frames. Statham looks wonderfully hunky, and very graciously performs two stripteases allowing us to feast our eyes on those splendid pectorals. The cars are mean, the girl is cute as a button with loads of freckles and bizarre syntax and the villain is suitably unctuous. All in all, however, the film is rather wearying to watch and Statham does not seem to be having as much fun narrowing his eyes and barking out the rules. Oh the plot! There is a father who is a Ukrainian minister. He has the said cute daughter. Then there are terrorists who want to dump shiploads of toxic waste in Odessa on Ukrainian shores. They kidnap the daughter to twist father’s arm and the Transporter is moving the daughter from point A to point B for the bad guys amid snarling villains, flying bullets, exploding vehicles taking time out for a little loving on the side. Diehard action movie fans might like the movie. Anyone else who demands at least a modicum of a coherent plot is going to be disappointed. MINI ANTHIKAD-CHHIBBER
