Jewellery seized from showroom owner
Special Correspondent
TAMBARAM: Gold and silver jewellery worth about Rs.40 lakh were seized from the owner of a Karaikudi-based jewellery showroom, at the Tambaram railway station on Thursday evening.
The owner did not possess valid documents.
Briefing reporters on Friday, personnel at Government Railway Police Station said they received information about a person carrying a huge quantity of jewellery without bills.
They intercepted Pichaimani, owner of a jewellery store in Karaikudi.
His bag contained three gold bars weighing one kg each, 300 gm of gold jewellery and 26 kg of silver bars.
Pichaimani pleaded innocence, stating he was running a jewellery showroom in Karaikadi, and that he had only purchased the gold and silver in bulk from a shop in Flower Bazaar in the city so that he could sell the jewellery at his showroom. Police said they were investigating to establish his claims.
He would be produced in a court to establish that his transaction was genuine, police added.
