AGITATION: Members of Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam staging a demonstration in Dindigul on Saturday. DINDIGUL: A total of 220 members of the Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam were arrested when they attempted to block trains at Dindigul railway station on Saturday. The police prevented demonstrators in front of the station and arrested them. The TMMK men condemned demolition of Babri Masjid. Later, 90 members of the Hindu Munnani were also arrested when they attempted to picket trains at Dindigul railway station in the morning. They demanded construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya. The police arrested HM members in Palani also. Meanwhile, security was tightened at Sri Dhandayuthapaniswamy Temple and other prime temples at Palani. The crowd was very less on the hill temple. Heavy police personnel were deployed and door frame metal detectors installed at the Dindigul railway station. RamanathapuramThe police on Saturday prevented the attempts of the Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam to picket trains services at Ramanathapuram and Paramakudi. They were protesting against the demolition of Babri Masjid. All were arrested before they tried to take out a procession to the railway stations. The police said more than 1000 cadres were arrested. However they were released in the evening. The members of the Tamil Nadu Towheet Jamaat also staged a demonstration on Saturday, demanding the Central Government to rebuild the Masjid at the same site. Meanwhile, 18 members of the Hindu Munnani were arrested when they tried to block a train at Rameswaram. The district secretary Ramamoorthy led the protest. They were urging the Centre to rebuild Ram Temple at Ayodhya. All were released in the evening. SivagangaThe TNTJ and TMMK staged demonstrations. TheniA total of 160 members of TMMK were arrested at the Theni railway station when they attempted to enter the station to block trains.
