Congress alleges discrimination in fund allocation in State

Special Correspondent

Bangalore: A delegation of Congress legislators led by Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday petitioned Governor Rameshwar Thakur against what it alleged discrimination against the constituencies represented by the Congress MLAs by the State Government in allocating development works and urged him to set right the lapse.

Speaking to presspersons along with the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council V.S. Ugrappa after presenting a memorandum to Mr. Thakur, he said that 1,108 works amounting to Rs. 303 crore in several departments had been re-allocated to constituencies in Shimoga district and seven Assembly constituencies, facing byelections, circumventing the budget.

‘Unconstitutional’

Terming it as unconstitutional, the leaders said that even while recommending for loans under the NABARD to take up works under Minor Irrigation, Public Works, Rural Development and Urban Development Departments, the constituencies represented by the Congress had been ignored. Funds granted by the Centre had been diverted to the constituencies represented by the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Mr. Kharge said that this was nothing but nepotism and favouritism by the ruling party to further its influence in the constituencies which were going to byelections.

He urged the Governor to summon the Finance Department officials to cancel such allocations and do justice to the people, who had elected Congress representatives to the Assembly.
