Recognition for Coimbatore surgeon

COIMBATORE: The Medical Director of Gem Hospital here, C. Palanivelu, has been recognised by the General Medical Council to perform laparoscopic surgery in the United Kingdom.

A press release from the hospital said it was rare to get such a certification from the council without undergoing a training in surgery in the U.K. According to the laws in the U.K., GMC certification was mandatory to perform surgery in that country.

Dr. Palanivelu would teach British surgeons advanced techniques in gastro-intestinal laparoscopic surgery.
