105 students present in a canter van when driver applied sudden break Due to the impact, children fell on one another, 30 of them were injured Hassan: A 13-year-old student died of suffocation and 30 students of the Purnachandra Convent in Chennarayapatna were injured when they were returning to school by a canter van after watching a movie on Monday. The police told presspersons that the student who died was identified as Monika, daughter of Vishakante Gowda. According to the police, the school authorities had taken 105 students in a canter van to watch “Ekalavya” at the Dhanalakshmi theatre. The students were returning to school at 10.30 a.m. when the accident occurred. When the driver applied sudden break, the children fell on one another as a result of which Monica died of suffocation and 30 other students were injured. The injured were shifted to Government Hospital for treatment and were discharged by evening. A case was registered against the driver. The police arrested Secretary Asha Vijayakumar. She was produced before the judicial magistrate and was remanded in judicial custody for 15 days. Tension prevailed when parents of the students studying in the school staged dharna in front of the school.
