Youth Festival held at Eluru

Staff Reporter

Vijayawada girls excel in the contests

Students from 20 colleges participate in the festival

It held to promote personality development

ELURU: It’s a feast to both eyes and ears. This is how one could sum up the outcome of the one-day ‘Aura-2008 Youth Festival’ held here on Monday under the aegis of St. Theresa’s College for Women. The fun-filled audience whooped with delight and excitement at the end of the day after watching a wide range of cultural events, which included group dance, group singing and light music, in rapt attention. For the youth, mostly girls, who descended on the city from around 20 colleges from Visakhapatnam to Krishna district, ecstasy knew no bounds. They sang and they dance together in ecstasy all along.

The cultural programmes apart, there were also events such as quiz, quick talk and mock press meet for the spontaneity and creativity in the youth to come out. Speaking on the occasion, Principal Thresia Cherian said the festival was intended to promote personality development in the students and help them in breaking the communication barriers. Vijayawada girls maintained a clear edge over their counterparts in group dance and group singing. The students of Montessori College in Vijayawada bagged first prize in group dance and the mock press meet while those from Andhra Loyola College from the same city got first place in quiz contest and the students from P.B Siddhartha College of the same city secured second prize in group dance. A degree student from Gudivada, Gogulamma, got first prize in light music. L. Anathram, General Manager, West Godavari Telecom District, gave away prizes to winners.
