Petitions pour in at Grievances Day

Staff Reporter

Kakinada: Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi and other district officials were virtually flooded with petitions during the weekly Grievances Day held at the DWMA conference hall here on Monday. The number of people who came with requests for loans, pensions and other benefits seemed to have increased substantially in spite of repeated appeals to them to get their grievances redressed to the extent possible in the villages as they have to ultimately approach officials at the lowest level for clearances.

The Collector has time and again suggested to the people to avoid coming to the district headquarters under the wrong belief that approaching the top officials would make things easy for them.

In fact, the officials concerned have to redirect the petitions to village-level officials for securing verifications and giving certain preliminary approvals.

Nevertheless, Collector Dwivedi ordered the officials to dispose of the petitions at the earliest so that the people would not be forced to make repeated visits to the Collector office. District revenue officer M. Mohan Raju, Disabled Welfare Department assistant director K. Jeevan Babu, DRDA project director Ch. Kumara Swamy and District Water Management Agency (DWMA) project director M. Jyoti were among the district officials present.

In Srikakulam District Collector N. Srikanth and his team of officers conducted Grievances Day.

About 800 people submitted their grievances to the Collector out of which 300 pertained to pensions for the physically handicapped.

The Collector also distributed 21 tri-cycles arranged by the Rajiv Vidhya Mission project officer Surangi Mohan Rao.
