BSNL executives seek their repatriation to the DoT

Staff Correspondent

Madikeri: The United Forum of BSNL and MTNL Executives’ Association, Kodagu, staged a dharna before the office of the General Manager, BSNL, Kodagu, on Monday, demanding repatriation of the BSNL and MTNL executives to the Department of Telecom (DoT).

The Sanchar Nigam Employees Association of India (SNEA-India), All India Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited Employees Association (AIBSNLEA), Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited Employees Association and Telecom Executives Association, Mumbai, have threatened that from December 22, they would not report to their bosses who are on deputation from the DoT.

Kodagu district secretary of SNEA D.J. Panchakshari and district secretary of the AIBSNLEA S.S. Dayanand told presspersons here that over 3.5 lakh employees were directly being “ruled” by the ITS (Indian Telecom Service) officers, who were on deputation to the BSNL and MTNL from the DoT, as per their whims and fancies. They alleged that the ITS officers were not bothered about the prospects of the BSNL and MTNL, which were PSUs.

Non-executives from the DoT such as operators, technicians were absorbed into the BSNL and MTNL first followed by the executives such as the JTOs (junior telecom officers), SDEs (sub-divisional engineers), DEs (divisional engineers), but of the 1800-strong ITS cadre, only 200 opted for the absorption. In view of this, the Government should either repatriate the absorbed employees (non-executives and executives) to the DoT or absorb the 1600 officers to the BSNL or MTNL companies, they said.

The non-executives have gone on a day’s strike on December 5 followed by the executives on Monday.
