NEW DELHI: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president J. P. Agarwal on Monday said the Congress victory in the Delhi Assembly elections for the third consecutive term was a “victory for the socially aware and politically conscious people of Delhi”.

Thanking the people of Delhi for reposing their confidence in his party yet again, Mr. Agarwal said the public believed in the policies and programmes of the Congress and voted for it. “The good work done by the State Government headed by Sheila Dikshit will continue with renewed vigour as we will make Delhi one of the best cosmopolitan cities in the world,” he added.

Crediting the victory in Delhi to party president Sonia Gandhi and general secretary Rahul Gandhi, the DPCC president said: “Their election campaigns in Delhi played a decisive role in swaying public opinion in favour of the Congress and also encouraged the workers to toil hard to ensure the victory of the party candidates.”

Mr. Agarwal said it was also a victory for the coordinated manner in which the Delhi Government headed by Ms. Dikshit and the Pradesh Congress worked for progress and development.

“The BJP’s bid to confuse and rattle the people through lies and false propaganda had no effect on the voters who stood by the Congress for delivering on the development front,” he added.
