Facelift soon: A badly damaged road in Tirupur Panchayat Union limit to get facelift soon. — Tirupur: Infrastructure bottlenecks in Tirupur block is to ease a bit as Tirupur Panchayat Union administration has chalked out plans to augment basic amenities at an outlay of about Rs. two crore during this financial year. Drinking waterNarrow roads, lack of hygiene and inadequate drinking water facilities has been some of the constraints faced by the owners of the textile and ancillary units situated within the block and also the residents. K. Thangaraj, chairman of Tirupur Panchayat Union, told The Hindu that a total of 57 development works has been planned under the package. “The project cost will be obtained from the ‘pooled assigned revenue’ earmarked by the District Rural Development Agency for local bodies”. It includes widening and upgrading of roads, establishment of drinking water facilities and improvement of sanitation across the 21 village panchayats falling under the jurisdiction of Tirupur Panchayat Union. Accordingly, a 60,000 litre-capacity overhead tank will be established at Koolipayalayam at a cost of Rs. 10 lakh to augment the drinking water supply to the region. The water bound macadam (WBM) road stretches between Power House to Valasupalayam in Perumanallur village, Appaiyampalayam road in Ettiveermapalayam village, arterial roads in Sokkanur and Pongupalayam villages, and Sevanthampalayam to C.T.C. Colony road in Muthanampalayam village, totalling about 10 km, will be upgraded to blacktop surfaces. Besides, cement concrete roads will be laid on a necessity basis. StreetlightsA total of 100 more streetlights have been planned in remote areas of Muthanampalayam, Neruparichal, Perumanallur, Mudalipalayam and Chettipalayam villages to help the residents overcome the problem of dog menace and to cut crimes in the dark. Under the scheme, a new building for panchayat office will be constructed on a 1,200 sq ft area at Rs. six lakh.
