Coimbatore, Kancheepuram lift titles

Tiruchengode: Coimbatore and Kancheepuram brushed aside the challenges of their opponents to emerge the boys’ and girls’ champions in the State junior volleyball championship at the Sengunthar Engineering College, here late on Sunday.

The results: Boys: Final: Coimbatore bt Kancheepuram 25-20, 26-24, 26-28, 25-19. Third place: Chennai bt Salem 26-24, 25-23. Girls: Final: Kancheepuram bt Chennai 25-21, 11-25, 18-25, 25-13, 16-14. Third place: Coimbatore bt Salem 25-8, 25-17.

Saravanan shines

An all-round effort by S. Saravanan (104 & three for 29) enabled RKS Cricket Academy score a 39-run win over Jolly Rovers Cricket Club in the Canara Bank-CDCA first division league for the Pricol Trophy at the PSG Tech grounds on Sunday.

RKS posted 237 for seven in 50 overs. But, Jolly Rovers, despite a fighting century from Kannan (105), slipped towards the end.

Earlier, A. Avinash picked five for 21 in Sri Ramakrishna Mills Sports Club’s eight-wicket win over Red Diamonds Cricket Club.

The scores: Red Diamonds CC 63 in 23.3 overs (A. Avinash five for 21) lost to Sri Ramakrishna Mills SC 64 for two in 6.3 overs; Rainbow CC 161 in 44.1 overs (S.D. Kannan four for 29) lost to Coimbatore Raiders 163 for five in 34.5 overs (R. Venkatesh 81); RKS CAS 237 for seven in 50 overs (S. Saravanan 104, Sathyaraj 47) bt Jolly Rovers CC 198 in 44.1 overs (Kannan 105).

Athletics meet

The 27th Tamil Nadu Masters’ athletics meet, organised by the Coimbatore District Masters Athletics Association, will be held from January 9 to 11 next. About 1,000 athletes are expected to participate.

Gautham prevails

Gautham Selvaraj, with a score of 75, emerged the gross winner in the V.C. Subbiah Memorial Trophy golf tournament on Sunday. V. Jayaraman, with 62, finished the nett winner.

The results: Eclectic Nett Medal round (Maximum stroke 24): 1. V. Jayaraman 62; G.M. Rajamani 65. Gross: Gautham Selvaraj 75.

Easy for Rainbow

At Udhagamandalam, Rainbow Football Club defeated Shooters Sports Club 5-0 in the NDFA-Riverside Public School third division football league at the HADP Stadium on Monday.

Earlier, Ilayabharatham Football Club drew 0-0 with Yankees Football Club.
