TIRUCHI: The district administration has revised the estimate of loss due to rain in the district to Rs.193 crore.
In an informal chat with reporters here on Monday, Collector T. Soundiah said crops in about 46,000 hectares have been affected in the district. The State government has released Rs.5 crore for the district for disbursement of relief to residents whose houses were damaged and waterlogged during the rains. Disbursement of the relief to the affected areas in the rural parts of the district has commenced on Monday.
The State government had initially allotted Rs.50 lakh for carrying out repairs to damaged roads and of this Rs.20 lakh has been allotted to the Tiruchi Corporation and the rest to other local bodies.
Mr. Soundiah said textbooks and uniforms would be given to school students who have lost them due to the water logging. Free dhotis and sarees would be distributed to the affected families.
Disbursement of all relief would be completed by the end of this month.
