‘It’s a daunting task to guarantee human rights’

Kakinada: The Supreme Court received nearly 70,000 cases of violation of ‘Right to life’ which is the basic human right, in the last few years. This reflects the magnitude of the problem of human right violations in India, said PSR Law College principal G Satyanarayana.

Addressing a meeting organised on the occasion of World Human Rights Day at Ideal College of Arts and Sciences here on Wednesday, Mr. Satyanarayana said human rights could neither be created by any legislation nor separated from any individual.

Commendable role

Though it was a daunting task to guarantee human rights, the United Nations Organisation has been playing a commendable role in alleviating the plight of the aggrieved.

Similarly, the Indian National Human Rights Commission was doing its best to see that human rights were not breached and where any violation takes place, the persons responsible were dealt with firmly under the law, albeit within its limitations, Mr. Satyanarayana added.

Noted advocate Syed Salar said the rights of women, children and prisoners were accorded priority in the implementation of human rights.

The right to clean environment could also be considered a basic human right, he observed and sought collective efforts to ensure that no individual, institution or any organization makes a mockery of human rights.

Ideal College principal T Nagi presided. Human rights course coordinator P Peda Satyam, lecturer GVK Varma and others participated.
