KRISHNAGIRI: The Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta on Wednesday reviewed the advanced updations in the State Enhanced Electoral Roll System (STEERS).

It was prepared by the Chennai-based CMC Ltd with the technical assistance from the Microsoft India Ltd, Bangalore.

This is a pilot project being implemented in Hosur Assembly constituency. The STEERS has been updated in such a manner that it will identify the duplication of voters in many places while feeding the data onto a centralised server controlled at the State Election Office at Chennai from Electoral Photo Identity Card centers (EPIC) in the state. The moment the data entry operator typed relevant information it will reject the card, if duplication was found.

If the project succeeds, it will be introduced all over the state. All the EPIC centers will be connected to a centralised server at the Chief Electoral Office in Chennai. Revisions will be scrutinised, and the EPIC centers would be authorised to issue identity cards to voters instantaneously.

In the review meeting the Collector , V.K. Shanmugam; Joint Chief Electoral Officer, Jayashri Muralidharan; tahsildar (Elections), Ravichandran; deputy tahsildar, Natarajan, and other officials participated.

Two technical officers from Microsoft India Ltd, Bangalore, too attended the meeting.
