Protest staged

Staff Reporter

COIMBATORE: The Tamil Nadu Electricity Workers’ Federation organised a protest in Udumalpet on Wednesday demanding immediate implementation of the agreement regarding upgrading the contract labourers.

A release from the federation said “identified casual labourers” were to be upgraded as temporary casual labourers according to an agreement signed by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board and the unions in August last year.

When upgraded, these workers would be eligible for a daily wage of Rs. 70.

However, the board was yet to implement this order.

The federation demanded implementation of the agreement and also pressed for increase in the daily wages to Rs. 120 since the prices of essential commodities had increased manifold in the last one year.
