IACT plans meetings all over India on chemistry education

‘Chemistry education vital for technological progress of country’

Scientists asked to take the results of their research to rural areas

ANANTAPUR: Scientists and senior researchers have suggested to chemistry teachers and students to take up research in the field that will help people in their day-to-day life considering the current social needs.

A national seminar on “Chemistry education and personality enrichment” and in connection with Chemistry Day celebrations was organised on the campus of Sri Krishnadevaraya University (SKU) here on Wednesday by the Indian Association of Chemistry Teachers (IACT) – Southern Zone.

Speakers said that chemistry education would help the science and technological progress of the country on a large-scale.

Speaking after inaugurating the seminar, SKU Vice-Chancellor P. Kusuma Kumari suggested to teachers and students, particularly those doing research, to take up the study which could meet the societal needs. The university would extend the necessary cooperation to the IACT to carry out its activities in SKU.

Create awareness

She asked the scientists to take the results of their research to the grass-root level so that students in rural areas could develop interest in science and technology. A better awareness among them would lead to better research and better utility of the research results.

P.K. Sai Prakash, IACT president, opined that scientific and technological progress of the country was mostly dependent on development of chemistry education and research.

Secretary of the IACT-South Zone K. Sudhakar Babu said that the association had planned scientific meets across the country to improve awareness on chemistry education among teachers, students and researchers. Such meets would also be held in the purview of SKU to create awareness on the trends in chemistry education and research. .
