13 core group officers identified for the programme Sensitisation meeting to be held on Thursday VISAKHAPATNAM: A special action plan has been drawn to ensure cent per cent immunisation of children in the 0-5 years age group in the critical areas during the National Immunisation Day Pulse Polio programmes to be conducted on December 21, District Medical and Health Officer J. Sarojini said here on Wednesday. The critical areas identified are fishermen colonies, nomadic population, district border and the beggars, because the parents may resist their children being administered the drops out of ignorance. or due to the possibility of migration More concentration was being given to the fishermen colonies since one case of polio was reported from this area in the past. There was still resistance in Peda Jalaripeta and Kotha Jalaripeta areas in the city and a special awareness drive would be conducted in the two areas, Dr. Sarojini said. It is mandatory that one health functionary is part of the Pulse Polio teams involved in immunisation in the critical areas. Pro-active personnel would be deployed and 13 core group officers have been identified to carry out the Pulse Polio programme in the critical areas. Each one of them would be in charge of four to five PHCs to review the previous rounds of Pulse Polio and rectify the mistakes, train the personnel involved and give necessary instructions to the Medical Officers concerned. A sensitisation meeting would be held for Medical Officers on Thursday followed by a meeting of District Task Force under the chairmanship of Collector, which would be attended by all district officials. Three rounds of mop up immunisation were conducted in the district after one case of polio was reported in the neighbouring East Godavari district during July. While P III monovalent vaccines was given in the mop up operations, the trivalent vaccine would be given.
