He was earlier thrown out of the Academy for not performing well during training DEHRA DUN: The Indian Military Academy authorities here have handed over to the police a Gentleman Cadet for having gained admission using a fake identity. The cadet was found out five months after he had joined the training course, exposing the vulnerability of this premier military institution. Sanjeev Yadav had been thrown out of the Academy after he went away without official leave in 2005 as he was unable to perform well during the training regimen. He re-entered the Academy for the Technical Graduates course this July using the name and identity of his younger brother, Deepak Yadav. He was identified by some of his course-mates from the earlier course when they happened to come to the Academy recently and reported the matter to the officials. A probe has been ordered now to find out how no one in the Academy could identify the impostor for over four months despite the institution being supposed to be sanitised against all threats. Sanjeev’s father, a retired Army major settled in Meerut, has been detained and an enquiry ordered as to how the Meerut Local Intelligence Unit cleared the cadet during the procedural verification of candidates qualifying for the IMA, said a senior police officer in Meerut. The father is stated to have told the police that his son had been telling him that he was working with a private firm in Bangalore. Sanjeev, on the other hand, told reporters on Wednesday that he did what he did simply to prove that he was efficient enough to be an officer.
