COLOMBO: The Sri Lankan military on Wednesday claimed to have inflicted “serious damages” to LTTE cadre along the Jaffna and Wanni battlefronts. A Defence Ministry statement said troops operating south of Adampan in Kilinochchi have captured three separate sniper targets and destroyed a bunker. Confrontations were also reported in Mulliyavalai, east Tanniyuttu, north of Kumulamunai, Pannikkankulam and east of Olumadu along the Mullathivu battlefront. The military further said the Army, while engaged in multi-pronged offensive operations to liberate Wanni, has commenced reconstruction work of the Trincomalee-Mullathivu Road, which runs parallel to the eastern coastal belt. LTTE allegationsIn a report posted on its website, the LTTE said more than 2,50,000 people in Wanni, who were displaced due to Army shelling for more than 12 months, are now suffering due to floods. Their makeshift shelters remain flooded due to constant rainfall. “Their situation is the direct result of harsh restrictions imposed by the Sri Lankan government on humanitarian supplies and the expelling of humanitarian agencies from Wanni three months ago,” said the LTTE’s website.
