VISAKHAPATNAM: A meeting was organised by Golden Articles, a voluntary organisation for legal awareness, at Visakha Degree College for Women on the occasion of International Human Rights Day on Wednesday. R. Krishna Goud, who was chief guest, said it was unfortunate that human rights were not being given their due importance in most countries of the world. He alleged that Governments had totally failed to uphold human rights. He called for greater awareness among the public about their rights. Chief Editor of ‘Visakha Samacharam’ S. Veerabhadra Rao stressed on the importance of achieving new rights apart from the protection of the existing ones. An essay writing competition was conducted for students on the topic ‘International human rights’. P. Rekha and A. Madhulatha bagged first and second prizes respectively. They were given away Rs.1,000 and Rs.700 respectively and third prize winner G. Anita was given Rs.500. Advocate K. Udayasri submitted a report on human rights.
