Haadu Hakki Habba for rural schools

MYSORE: Ananya Cultural Academy will be presenting “Haadu Hakki Habba” — a festival that seeks to encourage an exciting and fun-filled approach to the learning and appreciation of Carnatic music — among children in rural areas.

Activities such as essays, quiz, games, presentations, group events and interaction with senior musicians, all based on the theme of Carnatic music, will be conducted on December 14 at the Rotary West School Auditorium, Near Kamakshi Hospital, Saraswathipuram. Ananya initiated the “Haadu Hakki” project with the aim of introducing and encouraging learning and appreciation of Carnatic music among children in the State.

Supported by a grant from the India Foundation for the Arts, “Haadu Hakki” — a series of 19 episodes — was first aired on all the All India Radio Stations in Karnataka last year. The series was designed as simple interactive sessions to present the children with an overview of Carnatic music, and was accompanied by articles for children in Ananya’s monthly magazine “Ananya Abhivyakthi”. All the episodes of “Haadu Hakki” that were aired on AIR will be released as a set of ten compact discs at the festival.

Only at a young and impressionable age will one find it easier to grasp the fine gradation of music for learning Carnatic music. Listening can be done at any age.

But educating oneself to delve into the nuances is best as one steadily blooms, is the premise behind the launch of “Haadu Hakki”, the Carnatic music initiation radio programme for rural schools.
