Minister’s assurance to gram sevaks

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Standing instructions have been given to competent revenue authorities to promote gram sevaks (village servants) as village revenue officers (VROs) with a regular pay scale when vacancies are available, depending on their eligibility and educational qualification.

After receiving a memorandum from a delegation of AP Gram Sevak Sangham here on Thursday for pay scales to gram sevaks, Revenue Minister D. Prasada Rao said 7,000 out of 12,000 gram sevaks in the State had already been promoted as VROs with a pay scale of Rs. 3,900. The Minister, however, ruled out the possibility of granting pay scales to gram sevaks on the ground that their honorarium was enhanced thrice and fixed at Rs. 1,835 a month as against Rs. 800 earlier.
