Ozone depleting substances to be phased out

HYDERABAD: The export and import of Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) was being monitored and controlled to meet the phase-out schedules of ODS in accordance with the Montreal Protocol, to which India was a signatory, said A.P. Varma, Commissioner, Customs and Central Excise here on Thursday.

Inaugurating a workshop on the topic, Mr. Varma said that chloro flouro carbons used extensively in refrigeration, air-conditioning were chief destroyers of ozone layer that filtered harmful Ultra Violet–B radiation from the sun.
