CHICAGO: Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich ignored President-elect Barack Obama’s call for him to resign, clinging defiantly to power after he was held for trying to sell Mr. Obama’s Senate seat. Mr. Blagojevich was released on bond and reported to work on Wednesday after his Tuesday arrest by the FBI. His spokeswoman called the work day “business as usual,” but there was mounting pressure on him. Along with Mr. Obama, Democrats in the Senate called for Mr. Blagojevich to step down. They warned they could refuse to seat a replacement chosen by him for Mr. Obama’s old seat. “Everyone is calling for his head,” said Barbara Flynn Currie, a leader in the state House of Representatives. — AP
