Police torture alleged

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: The Scheduled Caste Protection Samithi has alleged police atrocities against P.A. Venu, belonging to the Pulaya community and a resident of Thuravoor in Cherthala taluk.

K.V. Kumaran, chairman of the samithi, said that Mr. Venu was detained by the Cherthala poice on August 5 and he was assaulted by the sub-inspector and the circle inspector. He was detained in connection with the missing of a girl in the neighbourhood.

The 19-year-old girl had relations with a relative of Mr. Venu, who was detained by Poochakkal police in November. The police used third-degree torture methods on him, Mr. Kumaran alleged.
