Traders welcome package

Special Correspondent

KOCHI: Anilkumar N. Prabhu, president of the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has welcomed the special package announced by the Prime Minister to combat the impact of global economic slowdown.

The reduction in the repo and reverse repo rates will give a boost to the economy and provide relief to the manufacturing, construction and export sectors, he said.

More benefits sought

However, the package is not adequate to compensate the present difficult situation faced by those who are engaged in economic related activities, he said. He hoped that the government would come forward with additional benefits to improve the performance of key sectors.

Tourism and allied sectors, which are facing severe problems in the present economic scenario, are also in need of special support from the government, he said.
