300 villages to be developed under sanitation mission

Kakinada: The district administration is taking steps to develop 300 villages on par with those selected for ‘Nirmal Grama Puraskar’ so as to improve the living conditions under the Total Sanitation Mission (TSM). A sum of Rs. 5 crore has been allocated for TSM this year, according to Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi.

Addressing a review meeting on TSM here, Mr. Dwivedi said village-level committees were being formed to implement the measures stipulated under the TSM and that awareness was being spread in all those 300 villages whose population is not more than 2,000. Training was being given for the committees at Kakinada, Rajahmundry and Amalapuram. Zilla Parishad chairman Ch. Venugopala Krishna said the Rural Water Supply (RWS) Department has to regularly monitor the implementation of TSM in these villages and ensure that there was no scarcity of water which plays a crucial role in sanitation.
