Training camp for scribes gets under way
Staff Reporter
Rajahmundry: Press Academy Chairman Devulapalli Amar said on Friday that credibility of newspapers took a beating in the last one and half decades. Speaking to reporters after inaugurating a three-day rural Working Journalists training camp being organised by the Andhra Pradesh Working Journalists Union (APUWJ), Mr. Amar said growing number of editions and cutthroat competition resulted in declining credibility of newspapers or media channels. He said the academy had been conducting training camps for rural journalists for the last 12 years.
IJU president K. Srinivasa Reddy, who is also member of the Press Council of India, said it was not wrong to criticise one’s editorial policy or news in other newspapers. Rather, it was a welcoming gesture, if they don’t cross the limits, he said.
However, he said it was painful that media became a platform for huge investments and as a result professional ethics were at stake. APUWJ State president D. Somasunder said upgrading professional skills and command over language were most important for any journalist working either in urban or rural areas.
MLA Rowthu Suryaprakasha Rao and Mayor Adireddy Veeraraghavamma appreciated the efforts of the Press Academy and the APUWJ for conducting such training classes.
