Protesters stall right canal works

ELURU: A boisterous group of protesters stalled the works of Indira Sagar Right Canal in Gopalapuram mandal, seeking access to their farm fields and graveyard.

According to information reaching here, people from Vellachintalapudi in Gopalapuram mandal gathered at the project site and stalled the works demanding construction of a bridge across the canal for access to their farm fields.

Korlapati Ramu, gram sarpanch, said the villagers were not able to reach their farm fields due to Indira Sagar Right Canal and Tadipudi Lift canal going side by side in their village in the absence of a bridge.

He said they resorted to the stalling of works due to the alleged indifference by the contractor concerned in conceding their request for construct a bridge across the canal in their area.

He warned that they would not all the execution of canal works if the contract failed to begin the bridge construction within a week.
